Toronto (December 15, 2011) -“Prospects” Tournaments is pleased to announce the addition of former Canadian Olympians Kevin Crocket and Cindy Overland to the 2012 Girls Showcase Camp June 1-3, 2012 at Canlan Ice Sports Etobicoke (Toronto), Ontario.
Kevin and Cindy who are siblings and have
been World Class Speed Skaters since their childhood days, will be offering on-ice
skating advice on Thursday afternoon/evening (May 31) to the first 280 “paid” participants into the
Showcase Camp. Kevin and Cindy will also
be part of the Friday morning mini-camp and will host a mid-afternoon open
forum for any interested participants and parents about their Olympic
experiences, Skating theories, etc.
Kevin Crocket - The eldest of three Olympic siblings from a sport-focused family
(he is the brother of “Cindy” and Amanda Overland)…Speed Skater Kevin Overland
who started skating at the age of 7, was a favourite for a medal in the 1500m
event at the 1998 Winter Olympics (Nagano, Japan) but ended up with a Bronze medal in the 500m instead. During his career Kevin specialized in the
1500m, even holding the World record in 1997 for a period of time. Furthermore, prior to the games, he had
claimed his best shot at a medal would be in the 1000m, an event he too held
the World record prior to the games.
Kevin also placed 5th in the 1996 World Sprint Championships
and won a Bronze medal in the 1000m at the 1996 World Championships. He has 5 World Cup medals to his credit…
Having changed his name to Crocket in
honour of his grandfather, Kevin Crocket is a Speed Skating Coach himself who
has trained among others, Chinese Speed Skater “Wang Beixing”. More recently, Kevin has decided to share his
skating wisdom with the Hockey community…Closely guarded, World record
producing techniques that will elevate any level of skater to their potential
best!
Kevin is part of “Elite Power Conditioning” based in Calgary
and is currently teaching a significant number of high level Girls and Boys
teams and individuals.
Cindy Overland - Sister to “Kevin” and Amanda who was also an Olympic Speed Skater
and won a Silver medal in 2006 relay…Cindy began skating at the age of 4. She won her first National title at age
9. Cindy was a Jr. World Championship
team member from 1992-1994, was a Sr. World Championship team member from
1995-2005. She was Canadian All Round
Champion from 1995-2000. Cindy was an
Olympic team member in both 1998 (Nagano,
Japan) and 2002
(Salt Lake City, Utah).
In 1998 Cindy was ranked 3rd in the World in the 1500m and 4th
in the 3000m, in 2002 she was ranked 5th in the World in the 1000m
and 6th in the 1500m. Cindy
retired from the sport in 2005.
Her goal in the near future is to
collaborate with what Kevin is currently doing in Calgary and offer the same concept in Southern Ontario for both Girls and Boys teams and
individuals.
